From the kiln
More work out of the kiln for the test kitchen. Working with a new clay body - always a great idea for a big project (!) - I am finding the interaction between the iron yellow glaze and the high iron clay, along with the other iron glaze in the kiln means a lot of extra iron spots. The results on the lighter glaze are not exactly as expected but there were a few different factors that impacted the outcome of this firing. Whenever I see a glaze behave differently than expected, especially after I mix up a new batch of glaze, is to also consider which ingredients may be from a new source. Yesterday I put a couple of pieces in the test kiln and fired again, but also reduced the temperature and I am getting closer to the colour I was expecting.
