Hi, welcome to Urn Song Pottery. My name is Sheri White.
I live in Mi'kma'ki. The ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq people.
I was fortunate to receive my pottery education through a two-year apprenticeship with Paula MacDonald in Chester, Nova Scotia, in the late '90s. Since that time, I have had various studios, from bathroom sized to a soulful little red cottage nestled amongst the trees.
In 2019, I decided to shrink my footprint and moved my studio home, where I create pieces for client and commercial commissions, and fulfill orders from several galleries. Recently, I completed a large commission for a small luxury hotel that opened in Halifax in 2021.
Primarily, I create functional pottery using either stoneware or porcelain clay. In my work, I employ multiple decorative techniques such as carving, sprigging and sgraffito. I create pieces for everyday use, striving to strike a balance between form and function, by creating work that feels good when held and is aesthetically pleasing when not in use. The beauty of Nova Scotia's landscape, both its richness and its starkness, inspires my work. The immense talent of Atlantic Canada's artisans buoys my creative spirit every day.
I am a juried status member of Craft Nova Scotia, and Craft NB.
